Enough Pokies

The Victorian Government is reviewing the laws for the poker machine industry.

This could go well, or badly. Which direction will depend on what voters like you say.

Right now, clubs and pubs own a license to print money (that's the poker machine) for 10 years. That's pretty outrageous but here's the rub - they want their machine licenses to last forever!

Diamonds are forever, pokies aren't.

It's not all bad though. With a push from Victorians like you, we could get some reforms to take some of the harm out of this industry. Simple policies like removing machines with features designed to decieve, and a speed limit of $1 a bet so people can use the machines without losing quite so much money.

Promise Pokie-Harm Prevention Policy for Brimbank!

Dear Members of Victorian Parliament,

I support the campaign to reduce harm from poker machines.

I call on the political parties to commit to:
− $1 maximum bets on all poker machines
− Reducing the maximum number of hours that gaming venues can operate per day
− Introduce a sinking cap on the number of poker machines in Brimbank
− Fund more research to better understand the local impact of harmful gambling.

Brimbank residents are losing more than $382,000 to pokies EVERY DAY! Poker machines are rigged. They are a con – designed to addict and for the player to lose. Pokie addiction is linked to high levels of mortgage stress, family violence, crime and family breakdown. It affects the whole community.
