Objection to development application LDA1988/3707
Dear Mayor and Councillors, I write in regards to LDA1988/3707. The above development application is a proposal to extend the opening hours of the Royal Hotel on Blaxland Road, Ryde. I note that the application proposes to extend the hours for the gaming room area only and that the hotel does not even intend to extend their liquor license for the extended hours. As you may be aware, problem gambling has the capacity to destroy families and communities. According to Australian Government statistics, 500,000 people are at risk of becoming, or are, problem gamblers. The social impact of problem gambling is estimated to cost the community $4.7 billion per year. I do not believe the proposal by the Royal Hotel is in the public interest. Extending the hours will risk the livelihoods of problem gamblers and their families. I ask that you oppose this application and stand up for the victims of problem gambling.
