If you're a member of the football club, please add in a line telling them so (provide your member details if you're comfortable)
Writing your own subject line and message is more impactful than a form letter
If you have experience of gambling harm, sharing this will also be impactful
Keep your message short and punchy – a couple of simple sentences explaining why you care is perfect
Be polite – it’s always best to get the message across in a friendly way

It's time for Essendon to get out of pokies!
ATTN: Xavier Campbell, CEO Dear Mr Campbell, As an Essendon supporter, and lover of the game, I’m writing to express my concern at the clubs’ ongoing reliance on gambling profits and damage caused by poker machines in my community. I understand the club operates 190 poker machines at Windy Hill and Melton Country Club, which last financial year took $8.2 million in profits. I find it absolutely unacceptable that Essendon continues to profiteer from the community in this way when it is well-known the harm that poker machines cause. Poker machines are designed to addict. Aside from the economic, there are well-established social costs of gambling harm, including mental ill-health, domestic violence and homelessness. The ripple effect of gambling harm means it not only affects people who gamble and those close to them, but also the broader community. It is unconscionable that Essendon continues to knowingly use gambling profits to prop up its business in this way. I urge you to follow clubs like North Melbourne, Collingwood, Melbourne, Western Bulldogs and Geelong in making the difficult but bold decision to get out of the pokie-business. It is out of step with community standards and not what we’re about as a club. Please put the community first and make the right decision that we can all be proud of.
